This presentation provides an overview of sound recording technology from cylinder to CD and beyond.

It explores the familiar and not so familiar contributors to Australia’s commercial recorded sound history between 1896 and the present day – focusing on a few key moments in history. Some personalities include Hamilton Hill (Goodbye Dolly Gray), Peter Dawson (The Road to Gundagai), Joan Sutherland, June Bronhill, Kylie Minogue, ADCD and many others. Familiar radio programs include Blue Hills, Biggles and the Argonauts.

Jeff will also discuss the recording of Australia’s Indigenous culture.
