Possum in the rafters

by Marilyn Sue Dooley

I and my NFSA colleague David Campbell used to take portable film projectors and reels of film, and do regional country town screenings.
On one occasion, we were in Braidwood, screening for the locals in their old hall, the National Theatre. Having introduced The Squatter’s Daughter, a Cinesound feature from 1933, I was standing at the back of the hall while David projected the print. I looked up to see a very large possum walking along the rafters above. It stopped directly above the projector and watched the sheep images on the screen, or so I hoped.
