Celebrating Silents

Australia’s Silent Cinema 1895-1930, was both prolific and popular. The motion picture camera captured everyday events such as street scenes, filmed news of the day, gave audiences local stories and landscapes; and evolved the technology of what became Silent Cinema evolving into The Art Form of the 20th Century.

Stage performers and theatre owners found a new career.

Screening from the historic and heritage collection of the National Film & Sound Archive will be footage that includes stage dancers, race day, bushrangers, a national moment, a wartime cartoon, scenes from narrative features, and readings from a Royal Commission.

This session is led by Marilyn Dooley.
